Henry-Robert Bresil was born on September 19, 1952 in La Gonaives, Haiti. He began painting at an early age. After moving to Port-au-Prince in 1973, he devoted himself exclusively to painting and began to develop his unique style, easily recognized today in the art community. His paintings often depict landscapes, surrounded by small lakes or rivers. In the book “Haitian Arts” by Marie Jose Nadal, Bresil was described as "a landscape painter lauded by art lovers around the globe”. He has received great reviews from the New York Times, the Miami Herald and Hostess Magazine. Throughout his career his subject matter has remained fairly consistent. In 1981, Bresil received the award of the Ispan-Unesco from the St. Pierre College Museum of Haitian Art. He has held numerous exhibitions in galleries both in Haiti and abroad. His paintings are amongst many private art collections in Haiti, the United States and Europe. Bresil died prematurely in 1999, at the peak of his career.
