About artist

Bernard Wah

Bernard Wah was born in August 8, 1939 in Port-Au Prince, Haiti. He began painting and drawing at an early age. At the age of ten, Wah began his studies in ceramics and sculpture at the Ceramics Center. The Haitian government recruited his talent to restore the art works in public gardens and cultural centers. He was credited for the murals at the Bowen Field (old) airport in 1961. He was also credited for the murals on display at the Bicentennial Exhibition, held in Port-Au- Prince. In 1965 Wah received a scholarship from the French Institute to study art. While there, he occasionally exhibited his work. He later moved to the United States where he continued his art studies. From 1967 to 1978, Wah held exhibitions in several countries, including the United States and Canada. He died in 1981. Illustrations of his painting can be seen in Gérald Alexis book, “Peintres Haïtien”, John Allen Franciscus' book, "Haiti Vodoo Kingdom to Moderna Riviera".

About the work

Painting Description:

“This is another brilliant illustration of the Haitian master Bernard Wah. In this painting he conceptualizes an interaction of positive spiritual forces. Wah employs very soft, warm colors in this painting to convey a sense of peace and harmony from the spirits. This painting was signed and dated: Bernard Wah in 1979. This is truly a wonderfully executed painting in original frame.”
