Painting Description:

“In this painting, Kesnel Franklin portrays several women dressed in white with red scarves on their heads, chanting and dancing to the beat of the drums. These particular drums are the Assotor drums, one of the most sacred of all Haitian drums. There drawing of the Veve depicted in the lower section of the painting , represents a loa or spirit, a messenger of the gods. The color white, a symbol of purity, dominates the painting. Franklin, who was an exclusive painter for the Red carpet gallery in Haiti, has successfully captured the essence of this Voodoo Ritual.”
