Serge Pierre was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in November 1956. He was encourage to paint by his father, the legendary Haitian artist Fernand Pierre. Fernand Pierre was one of the five artists who painted murals in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port-au-Prince. After his father passing, Serge continues to paint village scenes, hillsides and the tree of life paintings which was one of his father's signature theme.
Serge Pierre "The Ax" depicts a farmer chopping wood with his ax. Serge envisions a revived nation, one peace, prosperity and coexistence. In this painting, the dove shaped landscape signifies the restoration of peace and order. The lush green vegetation with tiny villages scattered amongst the contours of the landscape signifies a land of abundance, prosperity and coexistence of its people.
