George Paul Hector was born Feb. 7, 1938 in Petite Riviere, Haiti. He died in 1993. Hector joined the Centre d'Art in 1952 (teaching) and also studied with Haitian artist Louverture Poisson. Throughout his life, he was active in forming various artistic and writing groups including Koumbit studio in 1968. He became the first general secretary of the National Association of Haitian Artists, and he was founder/editor of Courier des Arts. In 1979 he created the group Third Generation, devoted to arts and crafts, painting and literature.
