Raymond D. Joseph was born in 1931 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He attended the Frank Devieux High School. He became a member of the school Foyer des Arts Plastiques, formed by a group of sophisticated artists who were dissatisfied with the way issues affecting Haitian painters were addressed. Together with Paul Beauvoir and Decourcelle Gourgue, he founded the artistic club Courrier d'Art. He participated in many art exhibits in Haiti and many parts of the world including Sao Paulo and parts of Canada. He is a listed artist in Eva Pataki's book, “Art in Kitsch” and the book "Haiti Et SES PEINTRES De 1804 a 1980” by Michel Philippe Lerebours.
