Henry-Robert Bresil was born on September 19, 1952 in La Gonaives, Haiti. He began painting at an early age. After moving to Port-au-Prince in 1973, he devoted himself exclusively to painting and began to develop his unique style, easily recognized today in the art community. His paintings often depict landscapes, surrounded by small lakes or rivers. In the book “Haitian Arts” by Marie Jose Nadal, Bresil was described as "a landscape painter lauded by art lovers around the globe”. He has received great reviews from the New York Times, the Miami Herald and Hostess Magazine. Throughout his career his subject matter has remained fairly consistent. In 1981, Bresil received the award of the Ispan-Unesco from the St. Pierre College Museum of Haitian Art. He has held numerous exhibitions in galleries both in Haiti and abroad.
Viewed from a distance, this painting gives brilliant impression of the quality of light and the colors that are so characteristic of the tropics. Close up, this effect is lost but the eye is captivated by the rich textures, the brushstrokes, and the quality of the paint surface, all woven together to create this sensational effect. Haitian life is basically an agrarian one, and farming traditions plays a crucial role in the life of the people. This painstaking realism and manipulation of shades of green are characteristics of Henry-Robert Bresil style. In this scene, there are several flamingos enjoying an afternoon swim. This colorful painting is housed in a gold wooden frame. The painting is fully guaranteed to be original work of the artist.
